Why Casey Exteriors Installs Owens Corning Duration
Owens Corning Duration is the second shingle line we install, so you have a choice. It is a laminated shingle built on Owens Corning’s TruDefinition color platform, with bold contrast and deep dimension in a wide range of colors.
Duration is built around SureNail Technology, a fabric strip in the nailing area that Owens Corning designed for holding power and wind resistance. We help you decide whether Duration is right for your home at your estimate.
What Owens Corning Duration Shingles Offer
Everything below is from Owens Corning’s published product and warranty information for TruDefinition Duration.
SureNail Technology
A patented fabric strip in the nailing area, with Triple Layer Protection, for superior holding power and wind resistance.
TruDefinition color
Multiple-granule colors and shadowing for dramatic contrast and dimension in a wide range of popular colors.
Impact resistance
Rated Class 3 for impact resistance by Owens Corning. A rating is not a promise a shingle cannot be damaged by hail or high wind.
StreakGuard algae protection
Helps inhibit blue-green algae growth. The 25-year coverage requires an Owens Corning hip and ridge product. Without one, coverage is reduced to 10 years.
Wind resistance
Up to 160 mph when Owens Corning component requirements are met and starter shingles are installed on both the eaves and rakes.
Limited lifetime warranty
A limited lifetime warranty on shingles and Owens Corning components, with blow-off coverage for the first 15 years after thermal sealing.
Owens Corning Duration Warranty Coverage
Owens Corning lists these coverages for Duration shingles on its product and warranty pages.
- Limited lifetime warranty on shingles and Owens Corning roofing components
- Blow-off coverage for the first 15 years, after thermal sealing
- StreakGuard algae resistance for the first 25 years with an Owens Corning hip and ridge product, reduced to 10 years without one
- Wind resistance up to 160 mph when component requirements are met and starter shingles are on the eaves and rakes
Owens Corning also offers extended warranties called System Protection, Preferred Protection and Platinum Protection. They require a minimum number of Owens Corning roofing components, and the Preferred and Platinum levels also require installation by a certified Owens Corning contractor. Ask us which coverage applies to your roof and read the actual warranty documents before you decide.
Owens Corning’s Total Protection Roofing System combines components designed to create a waterproof barrier, protect against the elements and balance attic ventilation. See Owens Corning’s roofing warranty page for the current terms.
Duration Shingle Colors
Duration comes in a wide range of popular colors on the TruDefinition platform. Owens Corning suggests seeing a real shingle sample, since screen colors vary.

What is SureNail Technology?
SureNail Technology is Owens Corning’s patented nailing zone on Duration shingles. A fabric strip in the nailing area, with Triple Layer Protection, is designed to give superior holding power and wind resistance.
Are Duration shingles impact resistant?
Owens Corning rates Duration shingles Class 3 for impact resistance. That is a test rating. It does not mean a shingle cannot be damaged by hail or high wind. If you think your roof has storm damage, see our storm damage and insurance claims page.
What warranty comes with Owens Corning Duration shingles?
Owens Corning lists a limited lifetime warranty on shingles and its roofing components, with blow-off coverage for the first 15 years and StreakGuard algae resistance for the first 25 years when an Owens Corning hip and ridge product is used. Extended warranties exist and have additional component and contractor requirements. Ask us for the actual warranty documents.
Why does the hip and ridge product matter?
Owens Corning’s 25-year StreakGuard algae resistance coverage requires an Owens Corning hip and ridge product. Without one, the coverage period is reduced from 25 years to 10 years. We confirm the components with you at your estimate.
Do you install anything other than Owens Corning?
Yes. Casey Exteriors also installs CertainTeed Landmark shingles. See our roofing page for everything we offer.
How long will my new roof take to install?
