Windows Basics
Below are all the major types of windows.
Awning Windows
Awning windows are hinged at the top and crank from the bottom of the sash to open outward.
Basement Windows
Basement replacement windows, also called Hopper windows, open inward from the top and are typically installed in basement applications.
Bay Windows
Bay vinyl replacement windows consist of three windows in a single frame. The center lite is always twice as wide as the sidelites, which may consist of two operable casements or double hung windows.
Bow Windows
Bow replacement windows consist of 3, 4 or 5 windows in a single frame. All of the windows are equal size and provide a circular arch appearance.
Casement Windows
Casement replacement windows are hinged on the left or right and crank outward to a full 90-degree swing.
Double Hung Windows
Double hung replacement windows feature movable upper and lower sashes that tilt inward for easy cleaning.
Single Hung Windows
Single hung replacement windows feature a fixed top sash and movable bottom sash that tilts inward for easy cleaning.
Horizontal Sliding Windows
On slider windows, the sashes glide horizontally. Sliding windows are available in 2 or 3-lite configurations with the 3-lite horizontal sliding windows having operable end vents.
Picture Windows
Vinyl Picture windows, also called deadlites, have fixed sashes that do not open or close.

Windows
Homeowners like you have many reasons for choosing replacement windows for their home: low maintenance, lighting, ventilation and decorative flair. However, a window's function does not end there. Well-designed windows provide warmth during winter's chilly days and keep your home cool during summer's intense heat.
The Double Hung Series of vinyl windows are available in a variety of styles--with options to fit every budget. Standard features, including precision engineered frames and sashes, provide added insulation. Optional high-performance, insulating glass packages, designed specifically for your climate, provide increased R-Values, improving the comfort of your home, while saving you money on heating and cooling bills. They are also better for the environment because lowering your energy use means less air pollution from power plants. Additionally, our windows are backed by one of the industry's strongest lifetime warranties.
Enjoy an expansive view of the outdoors with a Slider Window. Mounted on brass wheels, each panel glides easily along its track, enabling you to effortlessly open your window and enjoy fresh air.
Other specialty styles, such as the Awning and Basement Windows, offer you worry-free ventilation even on rainy days. For added safety and security, consider replacing ground-surface windows with a Basement Window featuring shatter-resistant Exolite.
Searching for a sleek, classic look to accentuate the architecture of your home? Casement Windows are the way to go. Designed with a refrigerator-like seal, the Casement style provides superior protection against the extremes of wind and cold. Concealed hinge hardware, engineered to provide smooth and virtually effortless sash operation, enables your window to open past 90 degrees for easy cleaning and maximum ventilation. For added security, our casements feature a multi-point locking system. Stylish folding handles are available to provide extra room for window treatments. Add one of our optional high-performance glass packages to maximize your home's energy savings.
Bay and Bow Windows bring a richness to your home no other window can match. Run your fingers over the smooth, hand-sanded furniture grade finish of either the birch or optional oak veneer.
While other bay and bow windows allow water, dust and grime to collect on the outside sill, Thermal Industries' Over-the-Edge design keeps your exterior surfaces cleaner. Comfort, energy savings and style are built into all of our Bay and Bow windows.
